Unmanned Aircraft System

Unmanned Aircraft System

NSA is open to adopt New Technologies to support its Geospatial Infrastructure. One such technology that is under evaluation at NSA is Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS).

UAS can play a vital role to fulfil NSA’s current and Future requirement. It can provide aerial photographs with high precision in a very less time frame at the time of urgent requirement. A lot of the Areas in the Sultanate is covered up with desert and mountain which is not accessible mostly, can be surveyed very easily and quickly using UAS.

Oman is also susceptible to threat of disasters such as Tsunami, Cyclones, Flash Floods etc. In the event of these disasters, NSA can support ROP and other concerned authorities for Disaster Management and control in terms of mobilization, evacuation plans etc. through provision of latest imagery or photos.

Recent Imagery or Photos can play a very vital role for Planning and traffic management during a National Parade or movement of a royal convoy.

UAS image processing is usually done using close range photogrammetric techniques adapted to exposures taken in the flight. Photo mosaics and Point Clouds can be generated with minimal Ground control with high level internal consistency in X, Y and Z. The geospatial products that can be derived from this technique are Digital Surface Model (DSM), Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and Orthophotos.
