  • The National Survey Authority (NSA) was established in 1974 to be the institution responsible for all land surveying activities and works and everything related to it such as production, collection, maintenance, distribution and exchange of geospatial data and information in the Sultanate.
  • The National Survey Authority has a full range of map production capabilities, from survey instruments for collecting details of natural and man-made features on the ground, to a large format, four color printing press for printing the final maps.
  • The National Survey Authority recently established a geospatial data infrastructure for the Sultanate consisting of Oman National Geodetic Datum (ONGD17), Oman National Continuous Operating Reference Stations Network (OMANCORSNET), Oman Geodetic Model (OMANGEOID) and the production of topographic maps covering the Sultanate at scales 1:50000 and 1:100,000, and the implementation of all these strategic projects comes as part of the responsibilities of the National Survey Authority in providing the Sultanate’s requirements for geospatial data to contribute directly to the comprehensive development of the Sultanate.
  • The National Survey Authority has also established a base for Omani geographical names, which numbered 11,000, and the number is expected to reach 17,000, with the approval of the names from the competent authorities, which were collected from the field when reviewing the topographic maps at the scale 1:10000 and 1:100000.
  • The National Survey Authority is keen to participate with similar survey bodies around the world in all local and international forums, and is also keen to acquire and use the latest digital technologies to analyze and process geospatial data, which enabled it to serve all institutions and individuals interested in modern information in both digital and paper formats.
  • NSA is the sole authority for the production and supply of Geospatial Data of the Sultanate of Oman and it is willing to advise on all matters regarding topographic mapping of the Sultanate and will endeavor to assist where possible in the provision of maps, data, information, services and expertise.
